The two scariest nightmares of how my father rapes me

Dear Ola,

I am a girl of 16. I'm in secondary school; financed by my father. I live with my father and kid half-brother in one room, in Port Harcourt.

My mother is married to another man, and lives with her husband in faraway Benin City. But I'm in touch with her.

For some time, my father had a girlfriend who sometimes slept over. But she stopped visiting.

Now, at night, ignoring my pleas and overpowering me, my father rapes me! And, as if that is not terrible enough, he rapes me without a condom—with the even more nightmarish chances of infecting me with AIDS and of getting me pregnant!

When ravishing me, my father threatens to strangle me if I attract any neighbour's attention with my entreaties or struggle. He threatens to strangle me if I tell my mother or anyone else what happens between us. My father also threatens to kill me and the neighbour if I go to sleep at night in any neighbour's room to escape my father's rape.

Please, Dear Ola, what should I do?

Dear Victim,

Go to your mother in Benin City immediately!

Go and live with your mother, and tell her why.

If for any reason your mother can't let you live with her, she should find you an alternative person that you can live with without any form of abuse.

Let your mother decide whatever is appropriate to do concerning your father.
